·        Clear communication: A clear communication and clear assignment of responsibilities as per the team strength is one of the most important skills for a Product Manager. A PM is responsible to communicate business requirements to Design Team for effective figma as well as responsible for communicating the same to Tech Team for them to build the same.

·        Domain knowledge: A Product Manager who has knowledge of the domain or vertical for which the product is getting built adds enough and more value to the actual product as PM understands the domain/industry trends as a whole.

·        Strategic thinking/ Business acumen: A PM with a strategic thinking mindset or business acumen is more likely to prioritise things better against the never-ending whirl-wind of day today urgent tasks.

·        Customer empathy: A PM is required to put himself/ herself into Customers’ shoes to understand his/her pain points or challenges. Once the problem statement is understood, same can be worked upon and solution needs to be implemented which is expected to impact Customers on scale.

·        Technical knowledge: A PM needs to have some basic understanding of technology to communicate with Engineers from the Tech Team and to also understand technological constraints at time.

·        Problem solving: A Product Manager should be focussed on solving a problem at hand and coming out with solution which will impact masses, i.e., something which is scalable.

·        Time management: A PM should be able to work on multiple projects/ products and stay organised to keep a better track of work or back log at any given point in time.

·        Team collaboration/ Leadership skills: A Product Manager should be able to command respect and authority even without a title. He/ She needs to coordinate with stakeholders from multiple departments & multiple hierarchy. Trust is the foundation of all relationships and PM should take care to build trust among his/her fellow team members/ stakeholders.

1.      What is Product Management?

Product Management is an art or science of step-by-step building of a Product, from ideation to launch and beyond by coordinating with multiple stakeholders from Business, Marketing, Design, Tech, Customer Service etc.

A Product Manager is like a mini- CEO of a company who is responsible for a successful product experience and revenue building through channels.

A Product Manager can be diagrammatically visualized as the one at the intersection of the Business, Tech & Design Teams.
